Project originated in the early 1990s when faculty members at the Canadian Jewish Studies Department of Concordia University of Montreal, Canada set out to collect unpublished memoirs of Holocaust survivors in Canada. Memoirs focus on the war period (1939-1945) but contain information about survivor's post-war existence. Memoirs written in Yiddish are translated into English. Inventory available.

Oral history interviews with nearly 100 survivors of World War II living in Cincinnati, Ohio. Three groups of individuals were interviewed: (a) German and Austrian Jews who fled Nazi Germany (and Austria) from 1933-1941 and came to Cincinnati or German and Austrian Jews who were not able to escape and survived the Holocaust, (b) the children of these individuals, (c) members of organized Jewish communal groups and agencies in Cincinnati who had responsiblity for assisting the refugees in adapting to their new environment or who as individuals assisted the newcomers. Topics covered in the interviews include displaced persons, the Jewish Holocaust, immigration, Nazism and Germany during the 1930s and 1940s. Papers consist of transcripts of the interviews.

Syrkin's papers include correspondence with friends and family as well as professional and political colleagues, copies of her journal articles, book reviews, addresses, and poetry, and lecture notes and syllabi from humanities and literature courses she taught at Brandeis University. Also included are materials pertaining to her work as a representative of the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation traveling to displaced person camps in Germany immediately following World War II. Collection consists of the archival records for the New York office of the World Jewish Congress (WJC), an international Jewish representative organization established in 1936. The collection spans the years 1918-1982, but the bulk of materials falls between 1940 and 1980. The headquarters of the WJC was originally in Europe (Paris and Geneva), but in July 1940, with most of Europe overrun by Nazis, the main office was moved to New York. In 1948 the executive was divided into three regional groups, but the New York office continued as a leading office for global, as well as Western Hemisphere activities. Records include correspondence, minutes, reports, articles, publications, photographs, research materials, cables, press releases, and memos. Subjects covered in the collection include: organization of the WJC, Jewish unity, Jewish rights and safety, anti-semitism, human rights, Jewish communities, Arab-Jewish relations, and Soviet Jews. Materials from the 1940s reflect WJC's interests and activities pertaining to World War II, the Jewish Holocaust, relief for war victims and refugees, post-war claims against Germany, punishment of war criminals, and establishment of the State of Israel. The collection also includes some material from the American Jewish Congress (U.S. affiliate of WJC), particularly on organizational work and political activities for the relief and protection of European Jewry.
