The collection reflects the involvement of the UAHC and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations -- as well as that of Alexander M. Schindler-- in these causes and movements. Papers consist primarily of correspondence, but also contains speeches and eulogies given by Schindler. The goal of collection was to preserve a contemporary record of the thoughts and responses of the American Reform Jewish community at this time. Since the Jewish High Holy Days occurred shortly after September 11, many of these sermons were given on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
